John Schofield has today been appointed as York City's new assistant manager.

Schofield had been at Sincil Bank in a voluntary coaching capacity since the turn of the year and returns to the Football League as number two to Russ Wilcox, whom he played alongside at Doncaster Rovers and worked with at Scunthorpe United.

Having celebrated his 50th birthday last weekend, Schofield has been player, head of youth, first team coach and manager with the Imps over the years and we wish him every success in his new challenge.

"I would like to thank everyone at Lincoln for making me so welcome on my return to the Club," said Schofield.

"Whilst I would have loved to have stayed at Sincil Bank, the chance of a full-time role in the Football League was too much for me to turn down.

"It goes without saying that I wish the manager, staff, players and supporters every success for the forthcoming season. Up The Imps!"
