One of Colin Murphy's first signings as City manager, centre-back Trevor Peake first appeared at Sincil Bank with the Nuneaton Borough team that was thrashed 6-0 by the Imps in a 1976 FA Cup tie.
An England semi-professional international whilst with Nuneaton, Peake joined the Imps in the summer of 1979 for a fee of £15,000 and went on to miss just a handful of games over the following four seasons.
A highly skilful centre-half, Peake established a strong partnership with Steve Thompson at the heart of City's defence at a time when they were one of the best teams in the lower divisions.
Peake was also a popular player amongst the supporters, so much so that he was named "Player Of The Season" in his first two seasons at Sincil Bank whilst his form in the 1980/81 promotion season saw him named in the Division Four PFA representative side.
His final season with the Imps saw him receive PFA recognition as well and it came as no surprise when he secured himself a move to the top-flight of English football in the summer of 1983 with Coventry City paying £100,000 for his services.
Peake made a total of 171 League appearances for the Imps prior to his move and he would go on to spend a further eight years at Highfield Road.
During that time he picked up an FA Cup winners' medal as the Sky Blues upset the odds to lift the silverware in 1987, beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in a memorable clash at Wembley Stadium.
After well over 300 League and cup appearances for Coventry, Peake made a £100,000 move to Luton Town in August 1991 with the Hatters struggling in the First Division (now the Premiership).
Peake went on to become the Luton skipper but couldn't prevent them relegation in his first season at Kenilworth Road. As such, all but one of his League games for the Hatters came in the second tier of English football.
His solitary outing outside the top two levels since he left the Imps was a record-breaking one, however, with his substitute appearance for Luton against Wrexham in September making him their oldest ever League player at the age of 40 years and 222 days.
In a distinguished career, Peake made a total of 627 Football League appearances, scoring 13 times and after he eventually hung up his playing boots, he became reserve team coach at Luton before returning to Coventry as first team coach.
In between the departure of Roland Nilsson and the appointment of Gary McAllister as Coventry manager, Peake and Steve Ogrizovic took charge of first team affairs for one match whilst in May 2002 he was appointed as their chief scout.
Peake left Coventry in March 2003 and is now involved with the Academy set up at Championship outfit Leicester City.
