An excellent performance from the Imps on Saturday ensured 'Jacko Day' ended with three points at the expense of Brentford; City defeating the Bees 3-1 at Sincil Bank.
Teenager Gary King marked the signing of a professional contract by firing City in front in the 39th minute; his effort from the edge of the box finding the back of the net courtesy of a shocking error by former Imp Simon Brown.
City were in front for just six minutes though as Nathan Elder made the most of some hesitation in the box to head home a long ball into the area but midway through the second half Jamie Forrester fired the Imps back front direct from a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Lee Frecklington capped a fine performance by heading home a peach of a centre from Paul Green in the 83rd minute to wrap up the scoring, and the three points.
Match report by John Vickers at Sincil Bank Stadium:
Just a couple of hours after penning his first professional contract along with Martin Pembleton, Gary King was handed his first Football League start for this Coca-Cola League 2 encounter against Brentford at Sincil Bank Stadium.
Teenager King replaced the suspended Dany N'Guessan whilst a further change saw fit-again Paul Green come back in place of Lee Ridley who dropped to the bench. Green's return saw Gary Croft switch sides to left-back.
With goalkeeper Alan Marriott ruled out with a hamstring injury, Ayden Duffy joined King in making his full City debut whilst Shane Clarke returned from injury to take his place amongst the substitutes.
Conditions were somewhat chilly as the teams made their way out of the tunnel and once the pre-match formalities had taken place, referee Carl Boyeson from East Yorkshire got proceedings underway with the Imps attacking the IMPS Stand in the opening period.
Brentford kicked off and were quickly on the attack with a snap-shot from Alan Connell forcing Ayden Duffy to tip behind for a corner. When the flag-kick was played in, Duffy produced another fine stop to claim Nathan Elder's downward header.
City's response was immediate with a free-kick into the area seeing Jamie Forrester make a nuisance of himself and when the ball ran fee, skipper Lee Beevers blasted over the bar from 12 yards.
At the other end Wayne Brown dragged an effort across the goal after Connell had made the most of assistant referee Amy Rayner's decision not to flag him offside, despite the former Torquay striker looking to have strayed the wrong side of the Imps' back line.
In the 10th minute good work from Ben Wright saw him muscle his way forward before teeing up Louis Dodds who forced former Imp Simon Brown to make his first save of the game; the ex-Spurs trainee doing well to tip Dodds' right-footed drive over the bar for a corner.
A scrappy 10 minute spell ensued before a tug on Wright's shirt by Matthew Heywood earned the Bees skipper the game's first caution and from the free-kick Forrester had a shot blocked before Frecklington drilled wide of the mark.
A break from King saw him win City's second corner in the 26th minute whilst after this was cleared Gary Smith won one for his side at the opposite end, which was claimed by Duffy.
City replied with Frecklington going on a great break through the middle before the ball ran to Dodds who saw his thunderbolt crash against the right hand upright before bouncing to safety. A matter of a couple of inches was all that stopped him from rifling home another long-range stunner.
The Imps were certainly looking the more threatening going forward with Forrester and Wright looking sharp up front and Dodds and Frecklington keen to push forward in support. It was teenager GARY KING, however, who fired the Imps in front with the clock in the 39th minute.
The goal came when good play from Wright saw him gain possession before playing the ball into the path of King and he tried his luck from outside the box with a right foot curler. Although the shot was on target, it found the back of the net thanks to a dreadful piece of goalkeeping from Simon Brown, whose solitary game for the Imps 10 years ago saw him concede five at Peterborough United.
Two minutes later Dodds fired inches wide as the Imps pushed forward in numbers looking for a second but 30 seconds from the break they were pegged back when Brentford scored a goal out of nothing.
The equaliser came when Kevin O'Conner played a high ball over the top, some indecision in the City back line saw the ball bounce and in nipped striker NATHAN ELDER to head past a helpess Duffy.

Ricky Shakes replaced Wayne Brown for Brentford before the second half resumed. City remained unchanged and were the first to press with a deep cross from Dodds just going over King's head at the far post.
At the other end good goalkeeping from Duffy saw him block a Glenn Poole effort from close range whilst City's response saw Frecklington test Brown, who was lucky to see his fumble fail to land at a red and white shirted player's feet.
A corner to the Imps followed with Dodds' delivery being met by Beevers who saw his header palmed clear by Brown. The challenge on Beevers as he went for the ball, however, saw him stay on the deck in the six-yard box holding his head. Physio Michael Wait was quickly on the scene and after attention, Beevers got back to his feet holding the back of his neck.
In the 58th minute Paul Green was cautioned after trying to take a quick free-kick without referee Boyeson's permission and a couple of minutes later he put in good block to deny Poole from six yards out.
A clash with Connell forced Pembleton to receive treatment shortly after the hour mark and shortly after he returned, Duffy was well positioned to hold a drive from Poole, who seemed to hurt himself as he drilled the ball goalwards, leading to yet another break in play.
Once play resumed again, Forrester was bundled over by John Mousinho on the ede of the box after he latched on to a Dodds flick. The ball was placed literally inches outside the area and FORRESTER took the responsibility from the set-piece himself, planting a firm drive over the wall and into the net, with Brown static on the line.
Brentford looked for a quick response, forcing a corner a couple of minutes later but good defending from Frecklington saw him clear the ball to safety before winning himself a free-kick.
Frecklington came close to making it 3-1 from the Imps' next attack; the former latching on to a excellent ball forward from Adie Moses before breaking into the area before the latter saw his drive blocked by a a Brentford defender.
In the 76th minute Reuben Reid replaced Alan Connell up front for the Bees before Pembleton hit the deck after a Gary Smith effort crashed against the side of his face, forcing physio Wait to have another trot on to the hallowed turf.
City made it 4-3 on the corner count with nine minutes remaining and after this was cleared for a throw-in, Pembleton was replaced by Shane Clarke in the middle of the park. The aforementioned throw-in saw City make it 3-1 on the goal count when the ball was played back to taker Green who saw his excellent centre met by the flying head of LEE FRECKLINGTON.
Jamie Forrester then received a standing ovation as he was replaced by Mark Stallard as the game approached its final five minutes. Stallard came close to netting with his first touch, but couldn't quite direct his header from Green's free- kick goalwards.
The Fourth Official indicate that a minimum of five minutes were to be added on and in the first of these, Louis Dodds was replaced by Owain Warlow. In the last of these, Heywood was lucky to stay on the field as he crudely upended King as he waltzed his way forward. Warlow took the kick for his first touch of the game but Brown was there to punch clear.
The full-time whistle went seconds later and the boys in red and white quite rightly received a warm reception as they left the field.
