Croft Pens One Year Deal

Posted on: Fri 27 Jul 2007

Former England U21 international Gary Croft has become our second pre-season signing, with the experienced full-back penning a one-year deal at Sincil Bank.

Croft (33) brings with him a wealth of experience having made over 400 first class appearances since bursting onto the scene as a teenager with Grimsby Town in 1992.

The Burton-on-Trent-born defender went on to play 149 times in the League for the Mariners and it was during his time at Blundell Park that he made his U21 international bow, appearing against in June 1995 with David Beckham also making his debut in the same match.

His form with Grimsby earned him a big money move to Blackburn Rovers with the Premiership side paying Town a record fee of £1m for his services in March 1996 and he went on to spend four seasons at Ewood Park, before moving on to Ipswich Town.

A First Division Play-Off winner with Ipswich Town in 2000, Croft played 29 times for the Tractor Boys before moving on to Cardiff City in the summer of 2002 having enjoyed a loan spell at Ninian Park towards the end of the previous season.

Croft, who also played seven times on loan with Wigan Athletic and was a Play-Off winner with Cardiff in 2003, rejoined Grimsby in August 2005 after 71 games for the Bluebirds and was a regular in their squad until he was released at the end of last season.
