Chris Is One To Watch: Hoddle
Former England manager Glenn Hoddle believes that City's new signing Chris Fagan is fully deserving of his chance to impress in the Football League and is predicting a bright future for the Irish U21 international.
Fagan today became our third signing of the summer, with the former Manchester United youngster joining the Club on a two-year contract from the Glenn Hoddle Academy, which was set up in 2008 to give young players who just failed to make the grade at top professional clubs a second chance.
The 20-year-old becomes the first player from Hoddle's Spain-based Academy to sign a permanent contract with a Football League club and former England international Hoddle, speaking exclusively to redimps.com, was delighted with Fagan's move to Sincil Bank.
"To see Chris sign for a progressive Football League club is a fantastic feeling and all of the coaching team here can feel very proud of themselves," he said.
"He is a player who we feel has a bright future in the game and the fact that he was on Manchester United's books shows that he's got something about him.
"We noticed his talent during the Premier League exit trials and encouraged him to join us so we could develop him. He's a natural striker and his main asset is his movement off the ball so all we've tried to do is to develop the other areas of his game.
"He's a very good professional with an excellent attitude and as a development club we hope that Chris is the first of many to progress and find their way back into the competitive game.
"A lot of big name players such as Ian Wright and Alan Shearer were released by clubs at an early age so it just goes to show that with hard work, dedication and commitment that second chance will come along.
"Chris has got a great chance now with Lincoln and hopefully it will be a platform for him to consolidate his place in the Irish U21 squad. The name of Chris Fagan is certainly one to watch out for and I wish him every success for the future."
