Ex-Spurs Youngster In On Trial

Posted on: Thu 25 Jun 2009

Included in the travelling party for our pre-season tour to Germany will be former Republic of Ireland U19 international defender Cian Hughton, who was recently released by Tottenham Hotspur.

A full-back who can operate on either side of defence, Enfield-born Hughton worked his way through the ranks at Spurs and was a regular in their youth and reserve teams, with his progress being rewarded by winning caps at both U18 and U19 level for his country.

The son of Newcastle United coach Chris Hughton, the 20-year-old had a brief trial with Charlton Athletic towards the end of last season, and manager Peter Jackson is looking forward to casting his eye over him.

"Obviously with Paul Green out with a long-term injury, I have to bring a right-back in and I'm looking forward to casting my eye over Cian," said Jacko.

"He's another young player with experience at a leading Premiership club and if his trial with us is successful then we'll try and sort a permanent deal out with him."
