Let The Action Begin!

Posted on: Thu 02 Jul 2009

The pre-season campaign gets underway in ernest tonight with the tour of Germany coming to a close with a match against TuS Celle FC.

The match, which kicks off at 7.30pm local time (6.30pm BST) at the Günther-Volker-Stadion in the Lower Saxony town, will give manager Peter Jackson the chance to cast his eye over the majority of his squad, including his new signings, in competitive action with the squad having spent their time in Celle concentrating hard on their fitness levels.

New boys Richard Butcher, Chris Fagan, Jamie Clarke and Joe Heath, plus trialist Cian Hughton, will all feature in tonight's friendly but missing out on the action will be Lenny John-Lewis, who's still a couple of weeks away from being ready for competitive football, skipper Scott Kerr (knee) and Andy Hutchinson (sickness).

"The players have worked extremely hard whilst here in Germany and tonight's game, although it's taking place a little bit earlier that we would have liked, will be a good test for us," said Jacko.

"The lads haven't done that much ball work over here so they might be a little rusty but the hard work has certainly started as we build up for the season opener against Barnet."
