Cian: "We Needed That"

Posted on: Wed 17 Feb 2010

Cian Hughton says there was nothing lucky about Lincoln's late fightback to beat Accrington Stanley last night.

Accrington led through a first-half Bobby Grant goal and seemed destined to take the points at Sincil Bank.

But late goals from on-loan Steven Lennon (83) and an own-goal from Darren Kempson (92) swung the game in City's favour.

Whilst the 21-year-old defender admitted Lincoln were not at their best, he said the win was overdue.

"It wasn't our best performance, but we have been unlucky in recent games so we felt it was deserved."

The victory ended City's five-match winless run and moved them 11 points clear of relegation. It was also the first time this season the Imps have won a game having gone behind.

"This result shows there is character in the squad," said Hughton. "I can't recall us coming from behind to win many times this season, so we needed that."

Hughton though says Lincoln will need to build on this result when they play Grimsby Town at Blundell Park on Saturday.

He said: "Its a good result for us and its just what we need going into the big derby game on Saturday."
