Imps v Grimsby - Match Preview

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

The Imps go into the game knowing that three points would put real distance between themselves and Grimsby who are in the last relegation place.

But manager Chris Sutton knows it won't be an easy task despite the Mariners being without a win in over 20 league games.

The Imps have a number of injury concerns. Paul Connor (hamstring) and Nathan Baker (ankle) are both out while Paul Green and Stefan Oakes are doubts with hamstring injuries.

Moses Swaibu returns from a one game suspension following the centre backs dismissal against Rotherham last Saturday and he could come straight back into the side although the experienced Ian Pearce gave a solid performance in midweek after replacing Baker in the first half.

Rotherham loanee Drewe Broughton is likely to continue up front after making his debut in midweek.

Grimsby equalled a club record 22 games without a win against Notts County in midweek but a spirited second half performance left the Mariners feeling unlucky that they didn't take away all three points from Meadow Lane.

Despite the lengthy spell without a win, Grimsby have shown a great deal of resilience more recently though with nine draws in their last twelve games and they will be boosted by a bumper crowd at Blundell Park.

Peter Sweeney will start a two game ban on Saturday after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season with Michael Coulson and Nick Hegarty are fighting to replace Sweeney.

Adrian Forbes is out with a leg injury while Dean Sinclair and Tommy Wright will both be ok despite picking up slight knocks in midweek. They should have strikers Nathan Jarman and the experienced Lee Peacock back in action although Adam Proudlock and the previously mentioned Tommy Wright are likely to continue up front.

Kick off at Blundell Park is at 3pm with Mark Haywood the match referee.
