England Stars Show Their Respect

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

England's Senior and Under-21 sides paid their respects to Keith Alexander on Wednesday evening.

After the death of former City manager Keith Alexander at the age of 53, both the England and England Under-21 teams wore black armbands this evening during their matches against Egypt and Greece respectively.

Following conversations between FA Chief Executive Ian Watmore and the England management and players, it was decided that it would be appropriate for the players to wear the armbands as a mark of respect.

England, in red and white, entertained Egypt at Wembley Stadium, built on the site where a fresh-faced Keith helped Stamford lift the FA Vase in 1980. He set Stamford on their way to a 2-0 win over Guisborough by opening the scoring.
