It's Somma Time At The Seaside!

Posted on: Wed 24 Mar 2010

A Davide Somma brace helped the Imps to a 3-2 win at Torquay United on Saturday afternoon in an entertaining Coca-Cola League 2 game on the English Riviera.

Somma struck his first in the eighth minute when a cleverly-worked City corner saw the South African fire into the roof of the net from eight yards but the Imps were pegged back shortly before the half-hour mark when a deflected Nicky Wroe effort drew the Gulls level.

City started the second half well and deservedly regained the lead when excellent work from Somma saw him play in Cian Hughton for his third of the season in the 53rd minute and four minutes later Somma made the most of a Mark Ellis slip to round Scott Bevan for his second of the game.

The Gulls pressed the Imps' defence back in a bid to get back into the game and when Chris Zebroski fired in a 76th minute effort, it set up a nervy ending and it was thanks once again to Rob Burch, who pulled off a superb injury-time save to deny substitute Kevin Nicholson, that City emerged victorious.
