Imps v Torquay - Match Preview

Posted on: Fri 19 Mar 2010

Chris Sutton will once again select eleven players from an injury ravaged squad at the Imps make the long journey down to the English Riviera to face fellow strugglers Torquay United.

Matthew Saunders has joined the injury list after picking up a knock in the midweek draw with Dagenham. The midfielder extended his loan from Fulham after the game until the end of the season but he is rated very doubtful for this weekends game at Plainmoor.

Paul Connor is likely to get his first start in eight games following the return of Drewe Broughton to his parent club Rotherham United following the completion of his loan move.

Lenny John-Lewis remains sidelined and he is joined by long term absentee Adam Watts, Nathan Baker, Ian Pearce and Chris Herd although it is hoped that the latter is nearing a return to training within the next couple of weeks.

Richard Butcher and Clark Keltie have recovered from hamstring injuries and are both in the travelling party while Cian Hughton, Stefan Oakes and Steven Lennon are all expected to shake off knocks and be available for the fixture on the south coast.

New Norwich loanee David Stephens will be in the squad and will provide competition for Danny Hone and Moses Swaibu as the only fit centre backs in the first team squad.

Torquay United celebrated a return to League football but have found life tough in the first season back in League Two currently sitting two points behind the Imps.

They are currently on a run of six games without defeat and earned a one all draw last time out at home to Crewe Alexandra. A goal from Scott Rendall who was returning from a broken arm, put the Gulls in front only to be denied back to back wins by an 85th minute equaliser from the Railwaymen.

Manager Paul Buckle told the press ahead of the visit of the Imps that his team need to build on their unbeaten run.

He said, "We have got another massive game on Saturday and we hope for another crowd and big support to push the players on for three points."

Wayne Carlisle is set to miss out after his kniggling knee injury flared up following last weeks game.

'Keeper Michael Poke is still a couple of weeks away from fitness so Scott Bevan will continue in goal while centre back Kieran Charnock will miss out once again.

Kick off at Plainmoor is at 3pm with Craig Pawson taking charge of the game.
