Teenager Turner Gets First Team Call

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Teenage winger Sam Turner has been given a first team squad number ahead of tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy first round tie at Rotherham United.

A second year scholar with the Club, Lincoln-born Turner played his junior football in the Mid Lincs Youth League and joined the Club as a 15-year-old following a successful trial spell. His form for the U16s saw him rewarded by the offer of a scholarship.

Turner, who celebrated his 17th birthday yesterday, was on target for the youth team in their 1-1 draw at York City at the weekend and Head of Youth Grant Brown is delighted that the teenager's form has been recognised.

"It's always good to see the youth players given an opportunity at first team level," said Brown.

"Sam's got good feet and an eye for a goal and he's got the call-up through hard work. Hopefully he'll reproduce the form he's shown for the under-18s and carry that into the first team arena."

Turner has been handed the number 21 shirt by manager Chris Sutton.
