Imps @ Chesterfield - Match Preview

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

City make their way to Chesterfield's new b2net stadium for the first time on Saturday hoping to build on their last two League outings which have seen the Imps undefeated and picking up four points.

Albert Jarrett will be a big loss to the Imps as the creative forward is away on international duty with Sierra Leone where he is in the squad to face Egypt on Sunday in Cairo.

It is also unlikely that Chris Sutton will be able to call on the services of Gavin McCallum and Mustapha Carayol again as they both are yet to resume training.

Young forward Andy Hutchinson filled in for Jarrett in the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Rotherham and could continue in that role.

Club captain Scott Kerr made a return from injury on Tuesday and came through the 90 minutes unscathed so could keep his place in central midfield.

Jamie Clapham and Ian Pearce were both rested for the game at the Don Valley Stadium as City went down to a deflected own goal shortly after half-time. Both are expected to return to the starting line-up having earned much praise over recent weeks for their calming influence.

Ben Hutchinson should continue up front and Delroy Facey could start again having been relegated to the bench in midweek, although he did come on as a replacement for the injured Paul Green (hamstring) during the first half, a substitution that was more precautionary than anything else meaning Green is expected to continue at right back.

As previously mentioned it will be City's first visit to Chesterfield's new stadium after the Derbyshire club left Saltergate at the end of last season to move into their newly built home.

In the League they have a 100% record at their new home with a 2-1 win over Barnet and a 4-0 victory over Hereford although they have tasted defeat with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Championship side Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup.

Two away draws mean the Spireites are unbeaten in the League so far and are likely to be once again challenging in the top half of the table for a promotion spot come the end of the season, so the Imps will have to be on top of their game once again.

Manager John Sheridan has a number of options to choose from with no major injury concerns ahead of the clash with the Imps.

Talking of the threat of the Imps before the game Sheridan said, "They're big, strong, organised, get people behind the ball and they've got one or two experienced players in the side. On their day they can beat anyone in the division, like I say they beat a team who I think will be up there, Gillingham, at the end of the season, they beat them away."

"We've got to go into the game, we're the home side and we'll take the game to them and hopefully cause them problems and make them know they're in a game. But it's up to us at the end of the day. We're at home

Kick off at the b2net stadium is at 3pm with Mick Russell the match referee for the afternoon.
