A junior with Bradford City, Kerr appeared in both the Premiership and the UEFA Intertoto Cup for the Bantams before spending two years with Hull City, who he joined for a nominal fee.
The Leeds-born midfielder linked up with Scarborough, initially on loan, towards the end of the 2002/03 season, and made the move to the McCain Stadium permanent during the following summer.
A number of outstanding performances in the heart of the Scarborough midfield, Kerr received a call up to the England Semi-Professional squad and made his international debut for the England non-League side in the Four Nations Tournament during the summer of 2004.
Club captain during his time at Scarborough, Kerr was also skipper of the England National Game XI and scored in a 3-2 victory over Scotland which saw England win the 2005 Four Nations Tournament trophy, which was played in the Republic of Ireland.
Kerr penned a new one-year deal prior to the final League game of the 2006/07 season and was made captain ahead of the start of the new campaign.
