Ben Wright became our fifth signing of the 2007 pre-season with the Munster-born striker, a former Lincolnshire Schools County Cup winner whilst playing for Deepings School, penning a two-year deal at Sincil Bank.
Wright joined the Imps from Norwegian outfit I.K. Start having been in Scandanavia for six years. His 'claim to fame' whilst in Norway came during his time with Viking Stavanger as he scored one of the goals which helped them defeat Chelsea in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup.
After progressing through the youth teams at Deeping Rangers, Wright joined Kettering Town and quickly began to attract the Football League scouts, appearing twice for Leeds United in the FA Premier Academy U19 League before joining Bristol City for £30,000 in March 1999.
His time at Bristol City was spent mainly in the reserves with only two Football League outings coming his way and after a month's loan with Woking, he followed former Bristol boss Benny Lennartsson to Norwegian outfit Viking.
He spent two seasons with Viking before joining I.K. Start and went on to spent five seasons with the club, finishing as their leading goalscorer when they won the First Division title and promotion to Norwegian top flight in 2004.
A broken left leg sustained in September 2005 kept him on the sidelines for some time and in a bid to regain full fitness he had a spell on loan with Moss FK.
Living in Bourne prior to his move to Norway, Wright was keen on a return to England and after impressing Director of Football John Deehan whilst on trial at Barnet, he was back in Lincolnshire and agreeing a two-year contract, with international clearance being granted 48 hours before the 2007/08 season got underway.
