It was honours even in this afternoon's Reserve match at Sincil Bank, as the Imps played out a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.
Match Report by Daniel Mooney
In an explosive finish to the game, Lincoln seemed to have been undone by Patrick McLoughlin's 88th minute header - only for makeshift striker Ian Pearce to bring the scores level with a delicate lob over the goal keeper.
No sooner had the match started than Steven Lennon fired the Imps into the lead. A searching ball from trialist right back Morgan Suric was knocked into Lennon's path by Adams, and the on-loan Rangers man made no mistake from 8 yards.
In a frenetic opening period Lennon almost extended City's lead on 4 minutes when he seized on a poor clearance from Ole Soderberg, but the Newcastle goalkeeper was able to gather his low shot. After 10 minutes McGorrigan had the ball in Lincoln's net but was adjudged offside.
The same player threatened again on 35 minutes when he spun cleverly in the penalty area, held off a challenge and sent an effort just wide. Not to be outdone Steven Lennon then charged at the Newcastle backline and hit a ferocious shot which was deflected high into the air, with Clark Keltie's follow up landing on top of the goal.
Three minutes before the break City received another reprieve when Tozer's header across goal was diverted in by Shane Ferguson, only for Newcastle to be foiled by the linesman's flag a second time.
The speedy and industrious Lennon was withdrawn at the interval, as Greg Enstone came on at centre half and Ian Pearce moved up front alongside Nathan Adams.
Newcastle emerged for the second half with a renewed sense of purpose and after 51 minutes they hauled themselves level. With the Imps unable to clear their lines, Jonathan Godsmark prodded home the equaliser from close range.
Despite this setback the Imps kept their shape as the match remained evenly contested.
With five minutes remaining, French defender Morgan Suric burst down the flank and thumped a fierce shot over the bar.
Then came the explosive finale when McLoughlin and Pearce traded strikes.
