Reserves Reaction To Hartlepool Draw

Posted on: Wed 03 Mar 2010

Scott Lindsey says there were a number of positives to take from Lincoln's draw with Hartlepool reserves on Wednesday.

Despite falling behind in the third minute to a James Brown goal, City recovered and James Reid's sublime strike on 33 minutes ensured it was honours even at Sincil Bank.

"It was another good run out," he said. "Some of the players got football under their belt. It was good to see some of the youngsters play well so it was a worthwhile exercise."

Lindsey made a surprise move putting midfielder Shane Clarke at centre-half alongside Danny Hone. It was a decision which looked like haunting him after City failed to deal with a corner for Hartlepool's goal, but said the pair coped well.

"Shane has got good attributes to be a good centre-half," he said. "Defensively he has got good positional sense and he is decent in the air.

"Its just an area we need to address, so we had a look at him there. But I thought they recovered from a rocky start and played well together for the rest of the game."

The Imps were forced to make two changes in a physical first-half that also saw defenders Jake Gibson and Danny Hone require attention. Lennel John-Lewis went off after only eight minutes, while Clarke Keltie lasted just 27 minutes.

"Any injuries not good news," said Lindsey. "The two lads that came off weren't going to play the full 90 minutes anyway, but its unfortunate that they got knocks."

City's equaliser came courtesy of a bit of class from trialist Reid. The left-winger scored his second goal in Imps' colours as he impressed the Lincoln faithful again with another impressive display.

Lindsey said Reid has been training with Lincoln this week, but refused to comment on his future after the young midfielder produced another impressive performance.

"He took his goal well as he did last week. Its too early to say whether we're going to do anything, but he's done well in his two games."

Despite Reid's leveller, Lincoln had been fortunate to go in at half-time all square after Hartlepool bossed the opening 45 minutes. But City came out in the second period and took the game to the visitors.

"They played a formation like a diamond so we had problems working out with who marks who," said Lindsey. "We worked out how to get at them in the full-back areas and I felt we did that better in the second-half."
