Former Republic of Ireland youth international Alan joined the Imps in July 2011 and quickly established himself as a first team regular and a firm favourite amongst the City supporters.

The Dubliner started his career as a youngster with Nottingham Forest, with his only first team appearance coming against Peterborough United in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie in September 2007.

The midfielder was called into the Republic of Ireland's U21 squad a month later before gaining experience on loan at Grays Athletic and following his release by Forest, he signed for League One outfit Hartlepool United in the summer of 2008.

Following the expiry of his two-year Pools' contract, Alan joined Rushden & Diamonds and was a regular in the Blue Square Bet Premier in the 2010/11 season, playing 41 times and scoring three goals. The players' player of the season at Nene Park, he was released by the club as they headed towards dissolution.

Named as the Imps’ Captain midway through the 2012/13 season, he capped a fine campaign by being named as the supporters’ Player of the Season.
