The son of former City striker Tony Simmons, teenager Alex signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2014 having progressed through the Club’s youth ranks.
A regular goal-getter for the youth team, Alex continued this form whilst on a work experience loan at Lincoln United during the 2013/14 season, scoring twice on his full debut for the club.
Alex was drafted into the first team squad for the New Year’s Day 2014 local derby at Grimsby Town, where he was an unused substitute and made his debut at Braintree Town as a substitute a couple of months later.
He linked up with Grantham Town on loan in August 2014 and scored a number of goals during his three months with the club. A further spell in the Conference North with Boston United followed and on his return to Sincil Bank was loaned out to Spalding United for a month.
