The U18s booked their place in the second round qualifying of the 2012/13 FA Youth Cup thanks to a 6-1 win over Blaby & Whetstone on Wednesday evening

City started brightly and went close through an Aaron Rice strike from the edge of the box and continued pressure from the Imps saw them go close on several occasions, including Luke Weaver heading against the crossbar from close range.

City took the lead after 10 minutes when Jordan Thomas linked up with Conner Robinson before Thomas beat the home goalkeeper from inside the penalty box. The lead was extended when Kegan Everington started and finished a flowing move. He picked the ball up in midfield and released Nick Green at right back, he delivered an excellent ball into the box that found Everington at the far post for a simple finish.

Two further goals from Thomas saw him complete his hat-trick in the first half to leave the score 4-0 at the break.

Blaby came out in the 2nd half determined to have a go and put more pressure on City higher up the pitch. The free flowing football of the first half was not quite as prevalent in the second period but City were always in control.

The lead was extended when Weaver met Rob Taylor’s left wing corner to head home, with the home side getting a consolation goal when a deep free kick wasn’t cleared and bounced awkwardly to hit a Lincoln player’s arm; the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty and it was duly despatched. City restored their five goal advantage when Taylor broke clear and stroked the ball home from 18 yards.

The young Imps will take on Mansfield Town in the second round qualifying. Date to be confirmed.

City: Ollie Pannell, Nick Green (Marlon Grundy 60), Will Rawdon, Kegan Everington, Luke Weaver, Ryan Leggett, Rob Taylor, Matt Bowles, Jordan Thomas, Conner Robinson (Matt Cotton 46), Aaron Rice (Rob Smith 80). Unused subs: Kieran Walker, Andy Wright
