The Imps’ youth team remained unchanged from the side which beat Rotherham and, despite heavy overnight rain, the pitch at Highfields survived a late inspection and the game got underway.
The Imps made a bright start by taking the an early lead through Rob Smith, a fine strike as the ball broke to him in the box following good play down the right by Alex Simmons and Jordan Thomas.
The visitors carried on adding pressure, a quick Jordan Thomas free kick released Kieran Walker who then fired a cross along the six yard box but no one could make contact.
Following this early pressure the home side started to grow into the game by chalking up a few corners, and Nick Draper made an excellent reflex save from a point blank header. As the half progressed, it was evenly matched with both sides having a number of half chances. Simmons fired over from a free-kick and Smith continued to threaten down the right hand side.
Then, in the 40th minute, Notts found an equaliser when a header found its way through Lincoln's defence and found a County striker who fired home.
Immediately after the break County went close again however Imps stopper Draper produced a brilliant save. As the half progressed City carved out more chances, Thomas cutting in from the left and just fired wide of the post. Matt Bowles and Kegan Everington were winning every tackle in the middle as the park and Matt Cotton continued to look dangerous breaking from midfield.
Coming into the last 10 minutes there was some excellent last ditch defending from the back four with included Nick Green, Callum Ward, Kieran Walker and Conner Griffin, and in the dying minutes County had a great chance to snatch all three points when their full back headed just over from close range.
Overall another really solid performance from an in form young Imps team who have now lost just once in their last seven, conceding only five goals in open play in the process, and with just three more games to go the youngsters are hopeful of a good finish to the season.
