The pre-season campaign came to a close on Saturday with hosts Stalybridge Celtic edging a close game courtesy of a penalty.

Celtic's winning goal came five minutes into the second half with Liam Dickinson netting past Nick Townsend from the spot after Jake Caprice had tripped his man in the box.

Birmingham City had given the Club permission to play Townsend in the goal with the youngster, who played 14 times for the Imps at the end of last season, looking as assured as ever between the sticks.

New loan signing Marcus Marshall was also given a run out, starting in an attacking midfield role before switching to a wide left position, whilst the closest the Imps came to a leveller was late on when Ben Tomlinson hit the post from a tight angle.

City: Townsend, Caprice, Bencherif, Diagne, Newton, Mendy, Ledsham (Everington h/t), Marshall (Simmons 78), Burrow, Tomlinson, Kabba (Robinson h/t). Sub not used: Farman.
