Year 4/5 Primary School Football Tournament

28 April 2015

Sponsored by

On Friday 24 April, 27 teams from across Lincoln Primary Schools competed in a Y4&5 football tournament at Sincil Bank Stadium.

The tournament - organised by Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust - was split into two competitions, one for large schools and one for small schools with all matches being played on the main pitch.

We could not have asked for a better day with the weather and with many children not knowing that they were playing on the main pitch the excitement intensified when they arrived.

Each school played four matches within their respective tournaments with the top eight in the large schools advancing to the quarter-finals and top four in the small schools moving on to the semi-finals.

The standard of the football was high as always and it was down to Monks Abbey v Fosseway in the final of the large schools and South Hykeham v Eagle in the small schools final. Many of the knock-out games went to penalties, a cruel way to lose at whatever age and especially in the large schools final.

In the large schools final Monks Abbey were the victors and in the small schools South Hykeham overcame Eagle 2-0.

"I would like to thank everyone that was involved in the day, especially the volunteers from Lincoln College who gave up their time to referee and make sure the day went smoothly," said Paul Hamnett, Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust Manager.

Thank you to Grant Brown who presented all the finalists with their trophies and congratulations again to Monks Abbey and South Hykeham - we hope to see all of you again next year.
