Alex Simmons fired in a first half hat-trick as as City XI defeated Gainsborough Trinity 6-1 on Tuesday evening.

The match at the Martin and Co Arena was arranged so that manager Chris Moyses could give some of his squad members some much-needed match action and they didn't disappoint, with Simmons in partocularly catching the eye.

The Lincoln-born striker, who scored his first senior goal for the Imps at Forest Green Rovers at the weekend, helped himself to a hat-trick in the opening 20 minutes whilst he also hit the woodwork on three occasions.

Conner Robinson increased the lead shortly after the break and after Trinity pulled one back, efforts from scholar Lewis Millington and first year pro Andy Wright completed the scoring.

City XI: Grant (Walton 81), Wood, Loftus (Harris 78), Brown, Wright, Tempest, Everington, Hodge, Power (Fewkes 69), Simmons, Robinson (Millington 65),
