Lincoln City Sport & Education Trust support the delivery of Lincoln City Disability FC where they currently have over 100 members playing across different squads.

Last weekend saw the Downs Syndrome team play in the National Finals in Birmingham.

The Downs Syndrome team are known as the DSActive team which there are many teams around the country and LCFCSET are lucky enough to be able to support such a fantastic group of individuals.

The event took place on Sunday 14th June where the team travelled down to Birmingham hoping for a really good day and meet up with fellow teams to battle it out for the title. They were in a group with Derby County, Charlton Athletic, Northampton Town and Queens Park Rangers.

The day got off to a good start with a 7-4 win against Northampton Town thanks to fantastic goals from Thomas Newton, Daniel Graham and George but unfortunately the next two games did not go as planned.

Up against eventual winners Charlton Athletic without the usual goalkeeper the City team struggled to keep them at bay. The score ended 6-1 but the boys kept battling and took heart from scoring the final goal of the game.

A further defeat to QPR meant they could no longer qualify for the knock out stages (only one from each group made it through) but the boys showed heart and determination against another strong side, losing out 4-2.

Finally, they did manage to go home on a high note, defeating East Midlands rivals Derby County 2-1 which meant a creditable third placed in the group with two wins and two losses.

The players at the end of the day received their medals for participating in the largest finals yet where 22 teams from up and down the country attended to make it a fantastic festival of football.

The underlying fact of the day is that these players just want to play and that this opportunity brings so many people together with everything, even the parents and supporters do everything in fantastic spirit. Even though there is disappointment in losing they all soon bounce back ready for the next game or training session.

We are proud to have this team as part of Lincoln City and hope to continue for many more years to come.
