Imps Open U21 Account With Dominant Display

LFA U21 FT: Lincoln City 15-0 CGB Humbertherm

The U21s made their Lincolnshire FA Development League debut on Monday evening with the visit of CGB Humbertherm. Referee Darrell Bright, assistants Ryan Boult and Ryan Coulson led the teams out onto the Sincil Bank pitch, with the match formalities complete the Imps kicked off attacking the Bridge McFarland Stand.

In the opening minute Jack McMenemy had the first effort on target after good work by Terry Hawkridge but his shot was well saved by Barker in the visitors goal down to his right one handed, the first corner of the game went to Humbertherm which was taken by Kirk but Alan Power intercepted at the near post to clear the ball was returned to Kirk but his cross this tiem went behind for an Imps goal kick.

On 4 minutes the Imps scored their first of the evening, Keilen Gretton with a long searching ball from just inside his own half found the run of Hawkridge he squared the ball for the oncoming Alex Simmons to score from close range. Hawkridge was involved in the next attack for the Imps he went past 2, laid it across to Elliott Hodge centrally on the edge of the box and under the challenge the ball ran free to McMenemy who stabbed home past the keeper.

Gretton played the ball down the line into space for Simmons, his deep cross was picked up by Hawkridge just inside the box his drive was parried by the keeper and there was McMenemy to turn it in, he completed his hat-trick just a couple of minutes later, Ryley Thompson down the left hand side crossed, Hawkridge again back across the goal for McMenemy to put the Imps in control with 15 minutes on the clock.

Good work by Hodge down the left crossed and coming in at the back post was Archie Moyses to put the Imps further ahead, a free kick by Moyses some 30 yards from goal bounced just before the keeper and he couldn't quite hold on, following up was Simmons to tap home, Simmons then added his third of the game when Hawkridge drove forward centrally his pass found Simmons who fired in from 20 yards to make it 7 nil.

Humbertherm then had a little spell of possession which saw them break down the left but Gretton came across and stifled the attack, the visitors then forced a corner but nothing came from it, Hodge fizzed a shot just wide of the post, Hawkridge was denied by the keeper who saved well after Thompson had played a fine ball into the penalty area,  McMenemy then converted coolly after a long run in on goal, he then added his fifth of the evening when Hodge put in Thompson down the line his cross picked out the Imps striker to finish from 8 yards out.

McMenemy and Thompson were replaced by Jack Mathers and Declan O'Hare, the latter squared for Simmons to poke home for his fourth, Humbertherm were awarded a free kick after a trip by Moyses, Goodhand stepped up 30 yards from goal, he lifted it over the wall but Regan Start made a good save to his right, the ball ran out for a corner, the Imps cleared and broke quickly and forced a corner, from the resultant flag kick the Imps were awarded a free kick on the corner of the box, Hawkridge fired in low but the keeper grabbed it at the second attempt after nearly squirming through him.

On the hour mark Ritchie Burdett and Danny Horton replaced Power and Hawkridge, Humbertherm also made changes, Gretton intercepted and came out from the back, he played in Hodge down the left who slid the ball past the advancing keeper from 12 yards, 11-0, Simmons skipped past the keeper but his shot was well blocked on the line by the covering defender, Start then made a comfortable save following a long range effort, Gretton was disappointed to head over the bar from a corner, Simmons advancing down the left to the bye line pulled the ball back to the edge of the box where Hodge saw his shot blocked, from the corner Jack Fixter shot wide of the goal, Hodge added his second after being released by a O'Hare through ball.

Mathers down the left hand side crossed into the six yard box and there was O'Hare to head home the 13th of the evening, with 10 minutes remaining Simmons  rose well to head home after O'Hare had picked him out with a cross from the right, Hodge nearly completed his hat trick but his shot struck the outside of the post, Horton played in Simmons who rounded the keeper and put into the empty net, his sixth and the Imps 15th of the evening.

Humbertherm had one last effort from Goodhand from 20 yards but Start on the stretch parried the ball up and collected, with a couple of minutes of added time played referee Bright ended the opening fixture in the Lincolnshire FA Development League.
