A young Lincoln City side were knocked out of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup this afternoon as they lost 4-1 to Gainsborough Trinity at the Martin & Co Arena.
Former-Imp Alex Simmons scored a brace for Trinity, with Bradley Wells and Ashley Worsfold also getting on the scoresheet.
Kyle Watkins had reduced the deficit in the second-half, but the hosts progress through to the semi-final of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup.
The Imps started the game with just one 18-year-old on the pitch, and the majority being 16-year-olds.
Simmons opened the scoring after just three minutes as he found himself in space in the area to power into the top corner.
Watkins prevented Trinity from doubling their lead shortly after as he put in a fine last-ditch challenge on the edge of the area.
The National League North side continued to put pressure on the Imps' goal, as Simmons tested Michael Antkowiak's hands, and also tried a speculative backheel which went just wide of the post.
City were denied what seemed a straightforward penalty decision as Dec O'Hare was hauled down in the area, but a goal kick was awarded.
Just after the half-hour mark, and Trinity were awarded a penalty of their own as full-back Tom Davie was hauled down in the area, with Worsfold smashing straight down the middle to double the lead going into the break.
HALF TIME
The young Imps side became even younger in the second-half with numerous changes made leaving them with six 16-year-olds, four 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old on the pitch for most of the period.
Watkins halved the deficit in the 72nd minute as Chapman kept a corner alive to set the defender up on a plate to tap home past Richard Walton in the Gainsborough goal.
The game began to open up, with the Imps creating chances down either side, but the game was put to bed when Simmons got his second from a free-kick which squirmed through Antkowiak's hands with 13 minutes remaining.
As the game was nearing a closure, substitute Bradley Wells rounded Antkowiak to make it 4-1 and secure Trinity's place in the next round.
