Tomorrow is the return of the Emirates FA Cup for The Imps and there’s no doubt everyone knows what it means to everyone in the Team Lincoln family.
So we take a look at what’s been happening down at our opponents, AFC Wimbledon, ahead of kick off at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
On The Pitch….
The Dons have been going through a relatively sticky patch recently, they’ve lost their last three games in all competitions following a resounding 3-1 win over Rotherham United in mid October, a game in which Lyle Taylor scored a hattrick and took home the matchball.
Neal Ardley’s side currently sit in 20th place in League One, but it must be noted their defence is the best in terms of goals conceded in the lower half of the table, only five clubs have a better record and they all currently reside in the top six of the third tier. However, it’s a stark contrast to things at the other end of the field as in the League they have nine goals to their name, which is the lowest in the division.
AFC Wimbledon will be hoping the aforementioned Taylor is fit to face his former manager, the Don’s striker of course famously played for Danny and Nicky Cowley at Concord Rangers before he and the Imps management team arrived onto the EFL scene. In other team news the home side are also hoping to be able to select Welsh defender, Jon Meades, who came through unscathed in the Checkatrade Trophy game against Luton Town in midweek following a recent injury problem.
Comment From The Dons…
Of course Wimbledon are synonymous with the FA Cup after that famous win back in 1988 and their coach, Simon Bassey, spoke to the club’s official website about the game this weekend.
"We know all about Lincoln.” Bassey said. “I know Danny Cowley and everyone in the country was full of admiration for them last season. Our job is to try and replicate that this season and try not to let them do it this time. They will come here with a noisy crowd and Danny likes to whip them up. With the way that they play, they get their crowd up for it, but we are fully aware of what our crowd can do for us, and I'm sure they will do it.
"In the last five years we've made huge strides, both on the pitch and off it. We've created a great infrastructure here. We are having a sticky spell, but we are fully aware of where we need to improve and what needs to be done to do that. Six points from the last four games is a decent return, but we are disappointed because we felt we deserved more. It is a different mentality going into a cup game. Hopefully, the crowd will get behind us and we can get into the next round."
