As we eagerly await kick off at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday afternoon, we take a quick look at what’s been happening on and off the field for ‘The Railwaymen’
On The Pitch….
David Artell’s side had a very productive weekend in the FA Cup first round, they defeated League One’s Rotherham United to set up a second round tie with another third tier side, Blackburn Rovers.
In the league they’ve had a rocky patch of late, losing their last two SkyBet League Two encounters against Accrington Stanley and Colchester United, however, it must be noted that prior to that they comprehensively beat Notts County at The Alexandra Stadium by two goals to nil. Also, home is definitely where Crewe have profited the most, they have won three of their last four on home soil in all competitions.
Reports suggest Artell could bring back Dave Richards, Perry Ng, Callum Ainley, Conor Grant and Jordan Bowery into his starting line up as they all sat out the midweek Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Port Vale. However, James Jones, Ryan Wintle and George Ray remain absentees through injury for the home side.
Off The Pitch….
Manager, David Artell, is looking to the weekend as the start of the second half of the season as he anticipates a tough Christmas period in a month’s time. Artell notes inconsistency as his team’s downfall in recent weeks, and hopes that it doesn’t rear it’s head much more.
“It is about finding that consistent level and trying not to dip below it. That is what makes good players and that is what we are striving for as a group.” He told the club’s official website.
“Every period is important but we have to make sure that we prove that we are a good team.
“It would be nice to get back-to-back home wins after beating Rotherham last week in the FA Cup. If we can repeat that second half performance then we have every chance. If we play like we did in the first half then it could be a long afternoon.”
“Lincoln had an outstanding season. They won promotion and enjoyed a great run in the FA Cup.
“They have adjusted well to the league and they are a powerful side. We thought they would surprise a few this season and they are right up there.
“They are a big team and we will have to match their physical element and hopefully our quality will come through.”
