Ahead of the trip down to the LCI Rail Stadium, we take a look at what’s been happening at Cheltenham Town before we head to the South West to take on our second round of ‘Robins’ this week.

On The Field…..

Until recently, our hosts this weekend have had a productive few weeks in Sky Bet League Two after picking up thirteen points from a possible fifteen they have fell to defeat in their last two outings, to Port Vale and Grimsby Town respectively.  Also they’ve won three of their previous four games played at the LCI Rail Stadium.

Top scorer so far for Town is former Dartford striker, Mohamed Eisa, who has bagged eight goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

This weekend Gary Johnson is awaiting the results of late tests on midfielders Kyle Storer and Harry Pell, Storer didn’t feature in their midweek defeat to Grimsby Town and Pell picked up a knock in the game. Defender Will Boyle is also a concern as he too missed out against the Mariners after unfortunately picking up an injury in the warm-up ahead of kick off on Tuesday night. Two players who will definitely miss out for the hosts are Jaanai Gordon and Jordon Forster who remain long-term injury casualties.

Opposition View….

Town boss Gary Johnson told the assembled press this week that his team will have to be ready to face a strong Imps’ team.

“We will work over the next two days on a solid unit that understands what we are trying to achieve against a strong Lincoln side.” Johnson said.

“They have some decent players, but they will know we have too. If individuals improve then the team improves. It’s not doom or gloom. We’re not suddenly not believing. I believe in our team and the team believes in itself.

“In the last few games we’ve been unfortunate on occasions, but we’ve not done enough to get a result and need to respond.

“We’ve got to be ready for a battle. The game will be competitive and you’ve got to be up for that.”

Some Stats V Cheltenham Town….

Tomorrow’s game will be the 20th meeting of the two sides in all competitions with the hosts this weekend currently holding the advantage in terms of the head to head record.

Cheltenham Wins – 11

Imps’ wins – 4

Draws – 4

City won the first ever league encounter between the sides played at what was then known as Whaddon Road, with goals from Paul Miller and John Finnigan taking the Imps to a 2-0 win.

There has been an average of over two goals per game in the last ten meetings between the two sides, so if the past record is anything to go by then we’re in for an exciting afternoon of football in Gloucestershire.
