Following last night’s first pre season game, Danny Cowley was pleased to see his players against Norwich City and despite the 3-1 reverse there were shoots of optimism in the performance by his players.
The visitors came to Sincil Bank with a very strong squad, including their most recent acquisition Jordan Rhodes as well as regulars in their side such as Alex Tettey, and The Imps’ manager thought his side acquitted themselves well against some top class opposition.
“It was a really good workout, a tough start to pre season against a Championship team with their full cohort with them. We did really well in the first half, we pressed cohesively and had good shape when we didn’t have the ball. So we were disappointed to concede the goal with the free kick.” Cowley said.
A number of players who came into the squad on trial were given the chance to showcase their talents in the game against the Canaries and Cowley was impressed by their efforts.
“Second half we did have a number of triallists on the pitch, so we were a little disjointed. It’s not easy against a Championship side at any time, but I thought they all did well. I was pleased with how they stuck at it and they showed some resilience and determination and we got a goal back as a consequence.”
Looking ahead to the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Friday, the Imps’ manager hinted that the supporters may get a first chance to see two more of the recent additions to the squad.
“We’re hoping Lee Frecklington and Michael O Connor will be available on Friday, John Akinde will be available so I would think we’ll be significantly stronger on Friday night.”
