Manager Danny Cowley previews the Imps’ upcoming fixture against Forest Green, with City searching for their first win in three matches.
Following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat Colchester United, the City boss has called on his side to bounce back at Sincil Bank on Saturday.
Despite picking up two points from their last possible nine, the Imps still hold a two-point lead over MK Donas at the top of League Two.
Ahead of the match, Cowley highlighted the desire for his side to return to winning ways.
He said: “I think I’m the only person who likes Monday mornings. I love my job and my life so I see it as a great opportunity to attack the challenges of the week.
“I think in the crazy world of football, Monday morning are always good for a little bit of perspective or a reality check, whatever is necessary. For us, it was perspective, we were frustrated and disappointed in equal measure that we hadn’t performed, but we know how tough this division is. You can’t get too high when you win, or too low when you lose.
“For us, it’s an important game. Last week we had a disappointing week and we didn’t accumulate the points or get the performances we would have liked. We always like to do the best for our supporters and we weren’t able to get to the standards we expect of ourselves.
“We’ve had a good week on the training ground and we’re hoping for a good reaction from the group on Saturday. At the start of the season, we would have probably cut our right arm off to be in this position.”
City have been on the right side of recent meetings against Forest Green, winning their last four encounters. Both clubs secured promotion from the National League in 2016/17 season, which has sparked a rivalry between the two teams.
“It’s a good game and one we look forward to. We’ve always enjoyed our encounters with Forest Green and there’s a natural rivalry between the two clubs,” explained Cowley.
“We’ve had similar pathways over the last few years and we’ve competed for the same prizes so that rivalry ramps up.
“They did brilliantly to get out of the National League. It’s a difficult division to get out of, as we know ourselves, especially given there is just one automatic promotion places and one through the play-offs.
“Regardless of the finance you’ve had, it’s not easy. Credit to them, they’ve managed to bring some good players through. As a consequence, they’ve been able to reinvest that money and they’re in a very good position this year. They’ve only lost one in 20 games in league and cup which is an incredible record and they’re in a really confident moment.”
