VIDEO: O'Connor talks Carlisle draw and first Sincil Bank goal

24 October 2018

Michael O’Connor was pleased to get on the scoresheet last night despite describing Lincoln City’s 2-2 draw with Carlisle United as frustrating. The former Northern Ireland international has scored two goals in all competitions this season.

Speaking to press after the game the 31-year-old explained how his side want to win every game and that they are frustrated to have dropped points: “It was a frustrating game, we’ve dropped four points and we want to win every game. You could look at it as four points dropped or going unbeaten in three.

“To not play well and still get a point is the only positive you can take, we know we are better than that. Defensively and all over the pitch we weren’t good enough tonight but we’ve still got a point from the game.

“We didn’t start very well, we got it back to 1-1 and couldn’t get going. We couldn’t get the passing rhythm which we have been doing all week. I thought the lads dug in to get a point even though we didn’t play well.”

O’Connor went on to speak about his goal before looking towards Saturday’s trip to Colchester: “The long-range ones are just standard for me. I’ve just setup nicely, the touch has taken me forward so I’ve taken it forward and thought I’d take a shot. I hit it nicely and its gone in.

“It was a frustrating night but we’ve got a big game in Colchester on Saturday. We will look over the game on Thursday and look towards Colchester.

“Every team raises their game against us because we are top of the league, you’ve seen in the last two games that Cambridge and Carlisle have done that but we are still unbeaten in three.

“It will be a tough one and we will be tested where we are at. Our away form has been fantastic this year and we are a counter attacking solid team away from home. It’s going to be a good one, we just need to keep getting wins and points to stay top of the table.”
