Imps defender Harry Toffolo has described the 2018/19 season as the best of his career following the announcement of his inclusion in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

The 23-year-old made it two awards in a matter of days after the Imps secured the Sky Bet League Two title on Monday afternoon.

Toffolo was joined by fellow Imps, Jason Shackell, Neal Eardley and John Akinde in the Team of the Year, which is the first time City have had four or more players voted into the PFA Team of the Year since 1976.

The PFA award is voted for by fellow professional footballers within the division, and the left-back believes that it is very rewarding to be voted for by your opponents.

"To be able to recognised by the players you’re coming up against is pretty special, and to be in there with some of the other boys is great too," 'Toff' said.

"It’s been the best and most enjoyable season of my career so far, and it’s been everything I wanted it to be and more. Everything I’ve worked hard for I’ve achieved.

"It’s testament to what we’ve achieved this season, and to be recognised is great.

"We’re grateful that we’ve been selected. We’re the lucky ones out of the 18 other team mates that could have been chosen."

The former Norwich City youngster scored on his home debut against his former side Swindon Town, and has since scored two more in 50 appearances this season.

"It’s been the best the season could have gone, I probably could have contributed more goals and assists, but on a personal level to have achieved the league and this award voted by the players is unbelievable," he added.

"We’ve worked hard as the manager says, we work harder than anyone else.

"We come in and we do extra work that other places might not do.

"That’s the most important trait to have, and everyone at Lincoln has that in abundance."

The Imps will play in England's third tier for the first time this century next season, and it's a challenge Toffolo is ready to embrace.

"Now we need to kick on for next season and what we can do and emulate some of other teams that have been promoted out of this division," he said.
