Mark O’Hara has revealed the atmosphere at Sincil Bank played a part in his move to Lincoln City.
The 23-year-old arrived at the SkyBet League Two leaders after making 29 first team appearances for Peterborough United so far this season.
The new signing got a feel for Sincil Bank in the Lincolnshire Derby last weekend, and O’Hara claimed the atmosphere created by the fans helped him make his mind up on joining Lincoln.
“I have been having a lot of conversations with the manager and Jez [George], it has been an easy decision. I went to the game last week against Grimsby to get a feel and I was surprised at the crowd, I couldn’t believe the atmosphere,” explained the former Scotland U19 star.
“As soon as I witnessed the atmosphere I wanted to get the deal done.
“I was delighted to get the move done and arrive here. I have played in League One this season and I haven’t seen a crowd like the Grimsby match all season.”
The former Scotland U21 international came through the ranks at Kilmarnock, making his debut at the age of 16 against the club he supports, Celtic.
During his time with Killie, O’Hara started playing as a right back before forcing his way into the midfield.
Explaining his transition into midfield, the 23-year-old explained: “Growing up in the academy I was always a midfielder and when I got the opportunity in the first team I was playing right back which was unfamiliar at the time.
“I played a few games there, it was difficult because I wanted to play in midfield but as a young boy I was happy to get game time in any position.
“I made my debut at Celtic Park which was an interesting experience as a young boy, we won the game in front of 50,000 fans."
In May 2018, O’Hara signed for Peterborough United in the SkyBet League One. He became a key figure in the first team, scoring four times so far from midfield.
The midfielder discussed how his goal has always been to come to England and that playing alongside experienced players such as Michael Bostwick, Lee Frecklington and Michael O’Connor will only benefit him.
“As a young player, I want to learn things from people, growing up I was always playing alongside other young players so it will be a good experience for me. Hopefully the lads can help me along with my game and I can help the team as well,” said O’Hara.
“My goal was to always come to England and be part of a successful team. I started the season well and hopefully by working with the guys here I can help move the team forward.
“Training today was sharp, it is a great squad here and hopefully I can complement it. I like to be a box to box midfielder who can score and create chances for the team, hopefully I can help get the wins here.”
O'Hara will be available for City's trip to Bury at the weekend, which you can watch live from Sincil Bank, if you are unable to make the trip to Lancashire.
