Preview: Yeovil Town (h)

8 March 2019

The Imps will be looking to make it a league double over Yeovil Town tonight, as well as building on the lead at the top of Sky Bet League Two.

John Akinde scored a brace for City to earn Danny Cowley’s side three points last weekend at Forest Green, keeping them at the top of the SkyBet League Two table with 69 points to their name.

Lincoln have a two-point advantage over Bury with a game in hand due to the Shakers drawing 1-1 with Cheltenham on Tuesday night.

Recent Form

Yeovil Town have turned their disappointing form around in recent weeks with two consecutive wins at home.

The Glovers had not won a game since 19 January before beating Cambridge United 1-0 at the end of last month.

Courtney Duffus scored his first Yeovil Town goal following his arrival from Oldham Athletic at the end of the January transfer window.

Town’s most recent win was last weekend when they put three past Morecambe. Ryan Seager scored the winner three minutes from time following Tristan Abrahams’ earlier brace.

Manager Comments

The Glovers head to Lincolnshire in good form after back-to-back home wins against Cambridge United and Morecambe.

Looking to now take their good form on the road against an Imps side unbeaten in the league since Boxing Day, Town's boss is looking for more of the same from his side.

"We've got nothing to lose," said Darren Way. "They've probably got the biggest squad with the biggest budget and everyone expects them to get promoted.

"We have to make sure we go there and handle the arena - that's probably the biggest thing when you go to Lincoln.

"You don’t normally get the siren they have at the grounds and that can cause a distraction but we've got to make sure the players focus on their own game and collectively, we come out of that place with a performance like on the last day of last season.”

Previous Meetings

Danny Rowe was the star man for Lincoln in the away fixture against Yeovil. The 26-year-old scored a brace for the Imps in the first half at Huish Park.

Last season, City were unbeaten against the Glovers in both fixtures, winning one and drawing their home clash.

Matt Green and Matt Rhead were the goal scorers for Lincoln in December 2017 as the Imps kept a clean sheet away at Huish Park.

10,004 fans were at Sincil Bank to watch Tom Pett score a 77th minute equaliser, cancelling out Jordan Green’s early strike.

Marcus Richardson scored a brace for the Imps in 2004 when the pair met at Sincil Bank. Gary Taylor-Fletcher was also on the scoresheet as City came out 3-1 winners.

Terry Skiverton was Town’s only goal scorer on the day, the 43-year-old is currently Yeovil’s head of academy coaching.

One to Watch – Tom James

Tom James has now been with Yeovil Town for two years after signing for the Glovers in January 2017 after having his contract cancelled with Cardiff City by mutual consent.

The 22-year-old has scored five league goals from defence this season as well as one in the Checkatrade Trophy against West Ham U23.

James made his return to the Yeovil starting line-up against Morecambe last weekend following the red card he picked up against Cheltenham at the start of February.

Coming into the match as underdogs, the Welshman is looking forward to the challenge.

"It's going to be tough as every game is and of course they're top of the league and doing well,” said James.

"They've been used to winning games week in, week out for two years pretty much so they go into every game confident but now we've got a couple of games behind us with wins it'll be a good test and a good game.

"With the two results, we've had it's taken the pressure off a little bit but we're not going to take our foot off the gas. No one is expecting us to win this one so if we get something out of it, that'd be perfect going into two big games against teams around us."
