The FA Cup returns to Sincil Bank on Wednesday evening as Ipswich Town are our opponents in the Emirates FA Cup 1st Round replay.

It was just eleven days ago when Tyler Walker fired City into a first half lead at the home of The Tractorboys and it looked like it was going to be enough to see the visitors to Portman Road progress into round two but Andre Dozzell floated a fortuitous equaliser beyond Josh Vickers to force the replay with just over ten minutes remaining.

On Wednesday night there has to be a winner, and the team that progresses will travel to face Coventry City in round two – Weekend commencing 29th November.

Recent Form

Since that clash in Suffolk, Paul Lambert’s have only played one game and that was a defeat in the Leasing.com trophy against Colchester United, with Town putting out a very young-looking side in that game by utilising their squad. Despite the narrow defeat they did progress to face Peterborough United in the next round of the competition.

Last weekend’s scheduled SkyBet League One fixture between Oxford United and The Tractorboys at Kassam Stadium was postponed due to more than three international call ups for Ipswich allowing them to reschedule their visit to face the U’s.

Manager’s comments

Ipswich’s assistant manager, Stuart Taylor, spoke to the club’s official twitter on the game at Sincil Bank and said that they have a challenge ahead following what was a game of two halves when the teams met at Portman Road.

“They’re a good side, they’re a side who like to play the ball about and build from the back. They’ve got a lot of talented individuals so it’ll be a tough game without a doubt but we’ll go up there and play our own game.”

The visitors have rotated their squad across the course of the season so far, but Taylor added that it’s something they were all aware of before a ball was kicked at the start of the campaign.

“The manager has spoke to them at the start of the season and how we’ve got a squad of players there that are good enough to play every game, so the manager spoke of squad rotation and how he’ll use everybody. The lads have been brilliant, they’ve bought into it, they agree with it and they just want success, it doesn’t matter who plays.”
