Michael Appleton was pleased with his side’s second half performance as they came close to taking all three points against Shrewsbury Town.
The Imps boss thought City showed great character to come from behind and put pressure on Town away from home in tough conditions.
‘I thought we got the worse of the conditions in the second half because it picked up,” said Michael.
“You could see when Josh (Vickers) was trying to get under the ball it was getting caught by the wind and going straight up into the air.
“I have to give the players credit for their character in the second half after coming in at half time a goal down. I thought for the first 40 minutes we were in control, we moved and kept the ball well but then Shrewsbury put a bit of pressure on us and scored the goal.
“I couldn’t wait until halftime if I’m honest because I needed to get them in and calm them down because they could have caved in after the goal.”
Appleton continued by praising his side for their second-half performance: “The performance in the second half was outstanding, we were unlucky to hit the crossbar and their keeper pulled off a number of saves.
“We looked threatening after scoring the penalty and I am relatively pleased. If things went our way, then maybe we would be celebrating three points today.
“I think we knew they would get the ball forward early and make it difficult, I can’t remember Josh making a save in the second half and the way we kept them out of our box for periods was really good.”
The Imps boss finished by speaking about Jorge Grant’s efforts before discussing new arrivals Conor Coventry and Tyreece John-Jules who made their City debuts today.
“I thought he was the pick of the bunch in the second half, the composure he showed was outstanding, he was very competitive today. He made good decisions, he knew when to turn the opposition, and he has shown maturity today.
“Everyone has played their part, they all stuck to their strengths and we got to see Conor (Coventry) and his passing ability today. Tyreece (John-Jules) is going to be a footballer and I am looking forward to working with him.”
