The Imps took their Sky Bet League One points tally to 13 with a goalless draw against Fleetwood Town this afternoon.

City boss Michael Appleton was pleased with his side’s performance at Highbury, praising the defensive efforts his side showed and admitted he thought his side had the better opportunities to turn one point into three come full time.

“I thought we got what we expected from them with the long strong passes into Ched Evans, our centre backs handled it well and there are positives in the group after today’s draw.

“Fleetwood have a lot of experience in their side and for us to play as well as we did is pleasing, the only disappointment would be the fact we didn’t get that one goal to give us the three points.

“The big chances in the game were from us, we had about five clear cut chances, then they had their chance at the end.”

Michael explained how the Imps will continue to work hard in training at the Soper of Lincoln Elite Performance Centre ahead of Tuesday’s game against Plymouth Argyle at LNER Stadium.

“The wide players balanced off each other but we are a work in progress and there is still lots to come from the group. The boys want to work harder on the training field each week for the club so there are a lot of positives.

“Going forward we will rotate depending on a few things, it depends on how sides set up with a back four or five and how expansive they are, they are all factors we are aware of with our opponents and we will always look to pick the right team.”

The Imps boss finished by discussing Joe Walsh’s performance after the defender made his first competitive appearance for City this afternoon: “He hasn’t played a proper competitive game since February or March, that would have been for MK Dons but he was fantastic for us today."
