Joe Walsh spoke of his delight at getting back out onto the pitch after having to patiently wait to make his debut for The Imps in the draw against Fleetwood Town at Highbury this afternoon.

The former MK Dons defender took to the field for the first time in almost seven months following the extended summer break and an injury picked up in pre-season so he said it was all the sweeter to be able to do it as well as help the side to a clean sheet against Joey Barton’s side and get another point on the board.

“It was good to get my debut, it was hard work it was a tough game. It was my first game since March so it was a bit of a relief.” Joe told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

“The first thing you do in a game you want to make sure it’s a good thing, so I think it went well, I’m pleased with the clean sheet, that’s all we can do. Whenever I’m called upon my job is to keep a clean sheet and we did that today but everyone has been playing well in what has been a really competitive start to the season.”

Joe came in today alongside Lewis Montsma at the heart of the City defence and the 28-year-old said he enjoyed the experience alongside his Dutch teammate as he played for the second time alongside Montsma following their pre season partnership in the friendly at Oldham Athletic.

“I’ve played one game in pre-season with him and of course we’ve trained together but I really enjoyed it. He’s a good player and we’re learning off each other every day.”

Joe quickly turned his attentions to Tuesday night’s game against Plymouth Argyle at LNER Stadium and says that he’s ready to get back out there and help the side pick up more points but, whether it’s him or someone else in the starting line up everyone is ready and raring to go.

“The main thing now is to play as many games as I can and hopefully we win as many games as we can. But to enjoy it is the main thing.”
