Michael Appleton believes Lincoln’s trip to Bradford City in the Carabao Cup Second Round will be a difficult game despite the side being a division below.

“They have an experience manager and they are a side people fancy to do well in League Two, it will be a tough game,” said the Imps boss.

“If we go into the game with slightly less than we did on Saturday, then we will lose the game but it’s a game that is winnable and if you win them games it creates momentum.

“We will look back at Saturday’s game this morning and go from there. Bradford will be very competitive; they are a club who have done very well. They are a good footballing side, but we want to win the game and I know that is possible.”

Appleton continued by explaining how the reward for winning tomorrow night’s match is a great opportunity, but he won’t let that distract his side.

“Players can relax a little bit more because there’s no three points on offer but none of us are stupid, we know what is in front of us if we win the game.

“It will be the same for Bradford, they will see it as an opportunity to get a tie against the Premier League Champions. We will go into tomorrow’s game to win and then we can build the momentum on top of the last few results.”

The City boss finished by discussing the balance needed in the side at the moment with games coming thick and fast: “There’s potential where we can have a month playing Saturday Tuesday every week, but we will have to get things right fitness wise.

“I think it is important to manage the side between the games by getting the balance right from a tactical point of view and a physical point of view.”
