Imps go gardening for EFL Day of Action

Imps players Anthony Scully and Alex Palmer have spent the morning at St Andrew’s Garden helping out local residents from the Sincil Community Land Trust.

The Trust is a society set up to “further the social, economic and environmental interests of the community” by helping regenerate areas of social and economic deprivation.

As part of its remit to improve and regenerate the area, the Sincil Community Land Trust has taken out a lease from Lincoln City Council on a former children’s playground in St Andrew’s Close to bring it back to public use as a green space for the community.

The intention is to provide a peaceful space for wildlife and wildflowers, with a small stand of trees, benches for relaxation and paths for strolling and exploring the site. It will be open during daylight hours.

Anthony and Alex were on hand to provide the finishing touches as part of the EFL’s Day of Action. The pair helped plant cherry blossom trees alongside local residents as well as clearing overgrown areas.

“It’s great to get involved and give back to the community, especially after a tough year for everyone,” explained the Imps goalkeeper.

“To have an area where the local residents can all come together and socialise is great, and we were more than happy to get involved.

“We know how important the community is to us, without the fan base there would be no football club, so anything we can do to give back to them creates a vital connection.”

The club and Lincoln City Foundation have helped bring the local community closer to the football club over the last 12 months through a number of projects.

These include providing support for supporters throughout by phoning them and checking on their wellbeing, help with shopping for those who were shielding and Take A Break sessions at the stadium as lockdown restrictions eased. The Foundation have also launched their ‘Team Talk’ Initiative providing the men of Lincolnshire with mental health support at the LNER Stadium.
