Michael Appleton believes his side performed well enough to have claimed three points after coming from behind to secure a draw on the road at Sheffield Wednesday.
Lewis Montsma netted his first league goal of the season to earn a share of the spoils at Hillsborough, and Appleton was pleased with the resilience his side showed after falling behind against the run of play.
He said: “A draw is the least we deserved, I thought we deserved the three points if I’m being honest. To come to Hillsborough after losing on Tuesday and the frustrations that came with that match, to put a performance on the way we did was really pleasing.
“The best thing we did was deal with the disappointment in conceding a goal. We stayed a little bit resolute, didn’t allow them to get a second, and then went again and tried to be positive.”
The boss was keen to highlight the recent performances of the goalscorer Montsma, who struck his second goal of the campaign .
On the Dutchman, he said: “For 12 games now his performances have been right up there, as good as anything I’ve seen in the division in terms of his position.
“He’s just getting better and better which is good news for us, for all Lincoln City fans, and the one thing we know he is capable of is getting on the end of things.”
The travelling Imps fans also witnessed a competitive senior debut for Academy graduate Freddie Draper, who replaced Anthony Scully off the bench with 15 minutes to go.
Appleton was delighted with the performance of the 17-year-old, insisting he was selected on merit after working hard to recover from injury.
He added: “The reality is he was the first substitution because he earned the right to be that. He’s been injured which is why we’ve not seen him, but he’s an honest kid, he likes the physical side of it and he’s a goal scorer.
“I’ve got a lot of time for Freddie, we’ll look after him, we’ll treat him the right way, but he’s certainly got attributes to give himself a chance.”
