The Imps and BBC Radio Lincolnshire have agreed an extension of their partnership which will see commentary of games continue until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Listeners will be able to enjoy commentary of matches via the station’s FM and DAB frequencies, while their online commentary will continue to be provided to iFollow Imps subscribers.

Michael Hortin, Radio Lincolnshire’s Imps commentator, said: “We are pleased to be able to commit to such a long deal for the club, providing certainty for fans that they can hear radio commentary in Lincolnshire.

“After a few lean years, it has been a great pleasure to be part of, and report on, the club’s re-birth and growth. Hopefully by the end of the deal, which will mark the silver anniversary of our commentary, the club will have moved on further.”

This is the longest-ever deal agreed between the BBC and the club, continuing a partnership that has lasted for more than 40 years and seen commentary of games provided since 1999.

And iFollow Imps subscribers will continue to hear the commentary provided by Michael or Rob Makepeace, who will regularly be joined by one of their expert summariser team such as former Imps boss Steve Thompson, Mark Hone or Jimmy Walker.

Andrew Whitham, the Imps’ director of commercial affairs, added: “The service provided by the BBC Radio Lincolnshire team has really made the decision to commit to a long term partnership a very simple one.

“Last season we had some terrific highlights which the commentary team provided to our fans and in some cases this was the only way of keeping up with the live action. We want to make sure the service continues to provide those behind the scenes insights along with the regular commentary.”

BBC Radio Lincolnshire will celebrate the partnership with a series of behind-the-scenes broadcasts live from the Soper of Lincoln Elite Performance Centre from 7am on Friday morning.
