City boss Michael Appleton was proud of his young Imps side as they picked up three points on the road with a 2-1 win over Burton Albion.

Michael explained how it was an important victory for the Imps who had suffered a number of injuries in the build-up to the game. He said: “I was delighted how we stood up to it, I can’t underestimate how young we were as a group out there.

“We had a lot of experienced players ruled out, so for the side to come out of something like they did will only stand them in good stead.”

Appleton continued by praising his side’s character saying: “It feels like a six-pointer, there are so many factors which went against us in the build-up to the game.

“We put bodies on the line, I wanted character before the game because we needed to match Burton on that front and that’s what happened, it’s a great result for us.”

The Imps boss finished by speaking highly of his stand-in skipper, Regan Poole who claimed the assist on City’s second goal.

He added: “Regan was phenomenal. He was big for us when defending in the box, he won his headers and took the sting out of the game when he needed to. It was good to see him being calm on the ball.

“Regan took the responsibility of wearing the armband seriously, you could tell that before the game and with the way he handled himself on the pitch, he can be proud of himself.”

Appleton’s side travel to Morecambe on Tuesday night in Sky Bet League One. UK based Imps supporters can catch the action on iFollow Imps with a match pass available HERE.
