City suffered a frustrating loss to an impressive Wigan Athletic.

Callum Lang gave the visitors the lead after eight minutes, firing home from a Josh Magennis' knockdown.

The equaliser came just six minutes later. Lewis Fiorini's shot from outside the area was deflected into the path of Scully. The Irishman managed to control the ball despite it coming at an awkward angle and speed, before slotting the ball past Amos.

Lang threatened again for the visitors after 16 minutes, shooting over, before Will Keane put the Latics back ahead.

Max Power and Lang combined in the build-up before the latter slid the ball through for Keane to slide home.

Chances were at a premium, but Jordan Wright came up with a big save after 37 minutes to deny Keane from close range before Poole cleared the follow-up off the line.

The Imps pushed to draw level before the break, with a run of corners starting after Fiorini's shot was blocked, then a great stop from Amos on the follow-up. The best chance was the last one, as Jackson went close with a header.

The heavens opened at the start of the second half, causing both sides challenges as they tried to keep control of the ball.

The best early opportunity for the Imps came when a long ball sent Scully away, but his pass inside looking for Jamie Robson was intercepted.

City started to enjoy some good possession as the rain stopped, with Wigan's Jason Kerr booked after illegally stopping a counter down the left.

The resulting free-kick from Fiorini was headed on by Bishop, but the ball did not fall nicely for any of the waiting Imps forwards.

Cullen picked the picked of a Latics defender down the wing, butafter collecting the ball Bishop couldn't get feet untangled quick enough to get a shot away.

Wright had to be alert again on the hour mark to keep out Magennis' powerful header from Joe Bennett's corner.

Fiorini forced a good save out of Amos after 65 minutes with a low shot, while a few minutes later Wright had his angles covered at the other end as Keane fired wide, while Jackson headed just over from a Maguire free-kick.

A Poole pass looking for Fiorini just missed his outstretched leg, it almost ran through to meet the run of Scully but again it was just too far ahead of him.

The visitors stretched their lead to two goals after 72 minutes, with Lang finishing sweetly into a far corner leaving Wright with no chance.

Scully's cross behind Cullen who tried to dramatically overhead kick it but couldn't reach. Scully cross but Amos claimed ahead of the lurking Poole.

Michael Appleton made an attacking double change with 12 minutes to go, with Tom Hopper replacing Cullen and John Marquis coming on for Bishop.

A late tackle on Scully after 82 minutes gave the Imps an opportunity just outside the box. Maguire's shot was looking to catch Amos out at the near post, but he was alert enough to palm it away. He could not hold the ball and it bounced back off Marquis and behind.

Attendance: 9,498 (1,270 away)
