City U18’s unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday, narrowly losing 3-2 to Doncaster Rovers U18.

Despite Bailey Adamson finding the back of the net and Julian Donnery scoring from the spot, Ash Foyle said that his side’s missed opportunities cost them the game.

He said: “We controlled the game for large parts but were not clinical enough, which ultimately allowed Doncaster a foothold in the game.

“We went in 1-1 at half-time, with the game open for us to go ahead and win if we converted our chances. At that point I expected us to press on in search of a winner, but we didn’t keep our intensity level and conceded another poor goal.”

Foyle expressed that the match was still a good learning experience for his side who will be returning to the LNER Stadium next week in FA Youth Cup action.

He added: “The game was a good reality check for us to stress the importance of not allowing any kind of complacency to creep into our game.

“It looked like an early season version of us defensively, which I thought we had got past. The lads just have to take the lessons from the game and move on to the next.”
