Sean Roughan was proud to make his debut for the Republic of Ireland recently, and says establishing himself in City's first-team squad this season is a big reason for his international success.

The 19-year-old came off the bench during the Republic's European Championship qualifying play-off against Israel during the international break.

He said: “It all comes down to me playing at Lincoln City and Mark Kennedy putting faith in me. To make my debut in the circumstances made me a bit nervous, but I am glad that I got to play.“I am hoping to push on now and earn more caps for them next year so that we can qualify for the Euros.”

Roughan returned to action with City in Saturday’s defeat at Bolton, and feels his colleagues will stay level-headed and learn as a group following a first league defeat since the beginning of September.

He added: “We had a few chances in the first-half, including the one before their goal - that is football sometimes as on another day our chance goes in.

“Despite the result there were a lot of positives to take so hopefully we get it right next Saturday and we can get a win.”

City are back home on Saturday when Charlton Athletic visit the LNER Stadium. Click here to secure your spot.
