Doncaster-born Sam started out as a youngster with Norwich City before serving his scholarship at Carrow Road. He was rewarded with his first professional contract with the Canaries at the end of June 2009.

Released at the end of the 2010/11 season, he played once at Sincil Bank for the Imps’ reserves in April 2011 but ended up joining Tamworth three months later.

After a year with Tamworth he moved to Braintree Town and became an integral part of the Iron squad over the course of the next four seasons, receiving recognition at England C level in the process.

Sam joined the Imps on a two-year deal in the summer of 2016 and was an ever-present in his first campaign at the Club. He scored several goals, and was notoriously dangerous from set-piece situations.
